strategy development ideas- Helena

We met today and began unpacking the brief, debating whether or not the 3 outlines could align.

  1. Bring art into everyday life/ highlight the importance of art in life
  2. Target under 30s
  3. Improve experience journey
What became apparent to me from listening to the client meeting again was that this could be an opportunity to highlight the beauty in non-digital interaction, and similarly a way to celebrate "living that live moment". NZ festival expressed that they were interested in how young people want to engage with "live experience and how that works in context of other habitual stuff that people do". We could find a way for people to experience art through their rituals of everyday life to raise awareness of its presence and significance in human life. I am less interested in presenting a performance for the public, which already exists in the festival and more interested in encouraging young people to generate, collaborate and contribute to an artwork, or the ideology of art.

Strategy Concepts

  • create a device that is attached to the pedestrian crossing buttons that engages the user in some performance in order to press the button.
  • flashmob-style intervention in a densely populated space that takes people by surprise as the people surrounding them take part in a performative intervention.
  • using popular pathways for students as a means to play on walking and art, perhaps including music. For instance, keyboard stairs or wet cement that develops the marks of many feet.
  • installations on eftpos machines, where there is an fun attachment on the swipey bit that can potentially use the swiping action to create an artistic movement.
  • use themosensitive materials to cover doorhandles, indicating human presence and the diversity of users that use a doorhandle

While these concepts are far fetched, they have a lot of room to be edited, rethought or to just keep one aspect of them.
